Emotional Eating and Weight Management

Your health has a huge impact on how you live your life. Your body can be a vehicle to allow for active, enjoyable experiences or it can hold you back to a more unfullfilling life.

If you've experienced yo-yo dieting and the cycle of temporary weight loss and rapid gain, you've learned that "diets" don't work. Most people want the vitality, energy, confidence and real joy that comes from living a healthy lifestyle. However, the challenge of implementing strategies and understanding the barriers that get in the way of health-related goals are often significant obstacles.

Counseling can provide you with a more balanced perspective on your patterns and behaviors in a supportive environment. Besides increasing your self-awareness and allowing you to become more mindful about eating, counseling can help you to recognize and learn from behaviors and habits, which often hide choices and real needs. It can also help you to understand triggers for emotional eating if that is an issue, and to learn to cope with intense emotions in a healthier way. New strategies can be explored and developed, allowing you to achieve your individual weight loss goals and build the life you really want.

Challenges Facing Professionals

My work with members of the Washington State Bar has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of professionals who are overwhelmed and stressed by the demands and responsibilities of their work. Often they are trying to balance relationship and family, financial and career needs – all the while hoping to reclaim the sense of purpose that brought them to their work in the first place. Sometimes they are also experiencing anxiety attacks or depression, or substance abuse or other addictive behavior.

Issues with difficult people you may regularly encounter during the course of your work, finding time for leisure activities and self-care, and having a sense of direction and valued goals to integrate into your life, can be significant challenges that, left untended, can impact and even jeopordize your productivity, professionalism and competency. With counseling, it is possible to gain insight into your reactions and discover new strategies to deal with feeling overwhelmed and stressed.

We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.
